July Highlights @ Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden

Visit Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden and learn all about Black Kite.

The Black Kite is one of the most commonly seen and best known birds in Hong Kong. It is a dark brown hawk with pale patches on the underside of its wings. Since it is an opportunistic hunter, it often scavenges for food instead of hunting for prey, feeding mostly on dead fish and food waste.

There is a small resident population of Black Kites breeding in Hong Kong with larger numbers of visiting birds in winter. There are only three places where Black Kites can be observed in cities, including Hong Kong, New York City and New Delhi. Look up to the sky when you are at KFBG and you may see one or more of these birds hovering above you.
