Do you know the radioactivity in Hong Kong is 5 times higher than Japan? Do you want to find out the level of radiation in your living environment?
Radiation and its environmental and health effects are issues which are fraught with deep-seated controversy. Come to workshop to work together with Safecast, a volunteer-based citizen science group based in Japan, to map the radiation in Hong Kong and demonstrate the most accurate and credible data possible.
In this workshop, you will:
- Learn about the basic knowledge of radiation
- Build a radiation detective device “Kgeigie”
- Go out to do radiation measurements in the area around PMQ

Class Rundown
The workshop will have 3 sessions [Each session is 1.5 hours]
- Session A: Participants will learn about the basic knowledge of radiation
- Session B: Learn how to build the Kgeigie geiger counter
- Session C: Data-gathering with Bgeigie [a portable geiger counter]
*After each session is completed the groups will rotate and join the next session.
*The workshop does not include the purchases of Kgeigie and Bgeigie devices, participants cannot bring the devices back home after the workshop.
