iNaturalist is a thriving online social network of naturalists, citizen scientists, and biologists built on the concept of mapping and sharing observations of biodiversity across the globe. More than 450,000 people signed up, who have clocked up 5 million verifiable observations across 100,000 species. iNaturalist is a tool to connect people to the natural world and each other, and boost global conservation efforts in the process.
In this workshop, you will:
- Find out about global and local biodiversity issues
- Input your observations using iNaturalist app to help build a global picture of information about biodiversity
- Learn about ecosystem and their services
Rundown of the activity:
Indoor: 10 mins - Slides- What is biodiversity, importance of it and human impact
10 mins - Slides- Importance of data collection and how to use iNaturalist
Outdoor: 25 mins - Walk and Talk
- Ecosystem services - green area / urban biodiversity
- Observe and find species (insect / bird/ plant)
- Try iNaturalist
Indoor: 10 mins - iNaturalist & BioBlitz
