National Band of New Zealand and Aotearoa Maori Group to perform in Hong Kong

From garden parties at Buckingham Place, concerts at the Edinburgh Festival, appearances at the Los Angeles County Fair and concerts at New York's Lincoln Centre with the New York Philharmonic, the National Band of New Zealand has performed in plenty of locations around the world promoting the best musicianship from New Zealand.

Now, the National Band of New Zealand, supported by the Aotearoa Maori Group, is coming to Hong Kong.

The Band will perform at the Yuen Long Theatre on Sunday 2 July 2017 during its Hong Kong stopover en-route to the World Music Concourse in Kerkrade, the Netherlands.

This is a concert not to be missed. On three previous occasions the National Band has won brass section at the World Music Concourse in the Netherlands; it's won the International Band Festival in Toronto; placed first at the British Open Championship at Manchester and won the Edinburgh Festival Brass Band Championship. At the 1978 World Music Concourse the National Band was awarded three gold medals with distinction, the highest number ever awarded; and at the same competition in 1985 the National Band gained the highest points ever given and was accorded a standing ovation, not only by the capacity audience but also by the panel of international adjudicators.

This is not the first time The National Band has performed in Asia. In 2014 the National Band completed a ten-day concert tour in South-East China at the invitation of the China Performing Arts Agency followed by performances at Korea International Wind Band Festival in Seoul, South Korea. The highly professional standard attained by the National Band makes it difficult to realise that the members are mostly amateur musicians, selected from 50 community bands throughout New Zealand and representing all walks of life.

The event is an official event of the 20th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and a signature event of the 25th Anniversary of the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.
