In view of the recent suspension of kindergartens as well as primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong as part of the preventive measures against the new coronavirus, Olympian City’s OC STEM Lab is organising the ground-breaking ‘Learning Beyond Classroom Walls’ programme, featuring weekly themed STEM workshops hosted by professional tutors on the Facebook platform for kids to keep their brain juice stirred with fun exercises and craft sessions on STEM topics, conducted online by professional tutors.

Live Broadcast of Weekly Themed Workshops to Promote Learning Beyond Boundaries!

The first online class organised by OC STEM Lab under the auspices of Olympian City was held on last Saturday (22 Feb). Entitled ‘Wooden Balance Scale Workshop’, the online Facebook session will whet little scientists’ appetite for learning through a storytelling approach coupling bespoke teaching materials and engaging pedagogy, with special emphasis on real time interaction with tutors. Olympian Kids members can redeem corresponding STEM workshop kit with a set of alcohol hand sanitizer for 1,000 points on mobile app. Demands for STEM learning is overwhelming with the stock of Lab teaching materials exhausted in just one hour on the day of redemption on 18th February. In response, Olympian City’s OC STEM Lab has decided to organise additional weekly online live workshops on Eco Can Train, Wooden Battery-powered Car and Wooden Table Lamp, with bespoke teaching materials conceived by OC STEM Lab to up the creative fun. The online live broadcast allows maximum engagement and interaction that will stimulate children’s creativity in the safe environment at home without having to source or create relevant teaching materials. It sets an example of learning through play with which STEM knowledge is made accessible.

In addition to online live workshops that keep the spirit of learning alive even when schools are suspended, Olympian City’s OC STEM Lab also offers over $1,000 STEM teaching materials and toys on loan for free for parents and kids to learn through play at home. These include the popular LEGO® Boost, the coding kits by renowned British STEM brand SAM Labs, and STEM toys by Artec and Tublock from Japan. With the live demonstration on Olympian Kids Facebook platform, little scholars can unleash their creative minds on STEM materials and toys while soaking up knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in a fun way.
