WWF Secondary School Education Programme Hoi Ha Wan


WWF organizes educational activities with hands-on experience for secondary school students at Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park and Hoi Ha Marine Life Centre.

 

Students will learn about marine ecology and participate in marine conservation work, to enable them to establish the connection between human and nature and learn how to live sustainably.
There are 4 programme options for secondary school students at Hoi Ha Wan:

OCEANOGRAPHER (for S.1 – S.6)

Experience the work of an oceanographer, to investigate the seawater properties and its relationship with organisms and further understand how human activities would affect marine biodiversity.
Activity format:
• Handling scientific equipment to measure parameters of seawater and atmosphere
• Plankton observation
• Coral observation on Glass-bottomed Boat
 

MARINE RANGER (for S.1 – S.6)

Take part in shoreline clean-up and reflect on the impacts of our daily habits on the environment.
Activity format:
• Beach exploration
• Marine litter surveys
• Coral observation on Glass-bottomed Boat
 

SEAFOOD WATCH (for S.1 – S.6)

Carry out field studies at Sai Kung markets and observe the marine environment in Hoi Ha Wan, to investigate how to manage and conserve Hong Kong’s fishery resources.
Activity format:
• Seafood study at markets
• Survey and interviews
• Coral observation on Glass-bottomed Boat
 

COASTAL ECOLOGIST (for S.4 – S.6)

Investigate intertidal habitats with scientific methods and raise student’s awareness of coastal development issues.
Activity format:
• Field study at rocky shore, sandy shore and mangrove
• Learning intertidal habitats by setting up quadrats
• Observation on the features of coastal organisms
• Coral observation on Glass-bottomed Boat

  • Target: Students of Secondary 1 - 6
  • Suggested group size: 20 - 40 persons per booking (including 2-4 accompanying teachers)
  • Activity day: Weekdays, except public holidays (1 September 2017 – 31 August 2018)
  • Duration: 4 hours; Morning Session: 0930-1330; Afternoon Session: 1230-1630
  • Quota: Maximum 2 bookings will be accepted in the same time slot
  • Fee: HK$120 per student or teacher (full payment made on or before 30 September 2017)
