To promote art and cultural exchange among regional youth, Youth Square collaborates with Tung Wah Groups of Hospital Tuen Mun Integrated Service Centre to host the “CULTURE @MAZE Street Culture Festival 2017” with a series of street culture elements including Street Dance, Graffiti, DJ, etc. The festival aims at connecting the youth from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Singapore to demonstrate – “Art without boundaries”. Youth are encouraged to widen their horizons, establish their confidence, as well as to unleash their infinite potential through the workshops with professional tutors.

Street Dance Workshop

Various Street Dance tutors from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Singapore will teach your different dance techniques and guide you through the world of Street Dance.

  • Class A: HIP HOP

Date: 11 Aug 2017 (Fri)
Time: 11:00–13:00
Venue: Dance Room, 6/F, Youth Square
Tutor: Milk Tea from Taiwan – Professional Hip Hop dancer with abundant teaching and performing experience. He was the champion of "Dancing Island Festival", regional dance competition hosted by Kimmen County, and “2on2 battle”, by Taipei City University of Science & Technology respectively.

  • Class B: VOGUE

Tutor: Mira from Macau – Well trained at New York, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Taiwan dance schools with teaching experience at Now’z Dance Studio, SDA, MSD, Initial Studio in Zhuhai, University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, and Macao Polytechnic Institute

  • Class C: POPPING

Venue: Dance Room, 6/F, Youth Square
Tutor: Popping Lok from Hong Kong – With lots of teaching experience and participated in different competitions worldwide representing Hong Kong. He was awarded in many local large scale street dance competitions in 2010, which included, Champion of “Hong Kong Ani-Com Festival Dance Power Competition”, Best Choreography and Overall Championship of “Hong Kong Best Dance Crew 2010”. Lok hopes to nurture talented young dancers, so as to establish a healthy street dance culture in Hong Kong.

  • Class D: DANCEHALL

Tutor: Lum from Singapore – From renowned Dance Studio “O SCHOOL” in Singapore, Lum is professional in Dancehall with fruitful teaching and performing experience.  Dancehall was originated from Jamaica, and inspired by Reggae music. Dancehall emphasizes on the coordination between waist and lower body.

Music Workshop

As being one of the most popular street culture, local experienced Beatbox, Ray, and DJ tutors will teach you basic techniques of and interact with participants on different street culture.

  • Class E:Beatbox

Venue: Music Studio, 6/F, Youth Square
Tutor: Atalas – Local BESTBOXER and street artist. Beatbox is one of the latest music art and a form of mouth techniques. It mainly uses lips, teeth, tongue, mouth and throat to imitate the sound of drums, beats, and music. It also includes singing, using vocal cord as music mixer, chords, and other music instruments.

  • Class F:Rap

Venue: Music Studio, 6/F, Youth Square
Tutor: Quilla – Local RAPPER, who is good at Cantonese RAP music. RAP is a music for dialogues with beats and rhymes, which has mainly R&B and HIP HOP. 
 

  • Class G:DJ

Time: 20:00–22:00
Venue: Venue: Music Studio, 6/F, Youth Square
Tutor: X Large – Experienced HIP HOP music when he was 17 years old, and he fell in love with records culture and affected by the style of Mix Master Mike because of a song, “Three MC and One DJ” by Beastie Boys. X Large loves the rhythm of HIP HOP in 90s and the brisk rhythm of Funk Soul. His recent music styles start to mix with different music including Jazzy Beat, Trip Hop, and Electro Swing. He performed in different places including Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Shenzhen, Macau etc, and recently participated in “Spring Wave Music and Art Festival” in Taiwan.

CULTURE @MAZE Street Culture Exhibition “One Love”

The four regions, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Singapore, got their different unique street cultures and history of street dance. The exhibition themed as "One Love" represents the interaction between different regions on learning & cultural exchange, combining the elements of street culture - respect, union, love and peace.
