About the Speaker
Dr Yanling Zhou is a developmental psychologist and Assistant Professor at the Department of Early Childhood Education, The Education University of Hong Kong. Prior to her life in academia, she was a language teacher in primary and secondary schools teaching English and Chinese as a second language(L2) /foreign language (FL) for over ten years. Dr. Zhou’s research focuses on how alphabetic language speaking young learners learn Chinese and how Chinese children learn English. Her research findings on how young children learn English and Chinese as a L2/FL have been published on international journals including: Bilingualism: language and cognition; Language, Cognition and Neuroscience; Journal of Experimental Child Psychology; Early Education and Development and so on. She lives in Hong Kong and is raising two trilingual (Mandarin-German-English) boys with her husband.
