The Mills Kids Festival 2024

The Mills Kids Festival 2024

ummer is a season of vitality, fun and new opportunities. If you are looking for a unique and exciting experience this summer, look no further! The Mills, a cultural landmark in Hong Kong, is delighted to announce the return of the highly anticipated The Mills Kids Festival. This year, in celebration of The Mills’ 5th anniversary, the festival will be themed around a Summer Textile Little Workers Programme at The Mills. Featuring a variety of exciting experiences such as “Travel Around The Mills with Totowai and Pineapple Cat”, a giant board game, and textile workshops, families are invited to immerse in the golden era of Hong Kong. This offers children of all ages a summer ‘intern’ adventure filled with inspiration and excitement.

The Giant Board Game Experience: Clock in as a Factory Summer Intern at The Mills

This summer, The Mills will welcome friends of all ages with the nostalgic charm of the old textile factory! We have designed an original board game for this year’s Kids Festival, transforming The Hall into a life-sized board game and immersing everyone in the rich heritage and charm of The Mills. The board game encourages adults and children to learn through play by stepping into the shoes of factory workers, discovering the little-known aspects of the work and lives of former factory workers, and understanding the glorious era of Hong Kong's textile industry. Upon completing the board game and visiting CHAT, participants will receive a "Factory Payroll" slip*, just like factory workers back in the day did, as a memento of their summer internship experience!

For those feeling extra nostalgic, make sure to drop by our factory-inspired installation at The Hall, right beside the mega board game. Drawing from old archival materials, the photo zone is a replica of the old textile factory offices, where “factory summer interns” can experience a day in the life of factory workers and “clock in” with the retro punch clock to mark their attendance. During the Kids Festival period, participants who clock in at The Mills on at least 5 different days will receive a "Good Attendance Bonus" and be able to redeem total value of HK$60 The Mills e-voucher^ by presenting the same “Attendance Record Card”.

Travel Around The Mills with Totowai and Pineapple Cat

As a dedicated supporter of local creative industries, The Mills has collaborated with local illustrator, Wai Wai, to launch “Travel Around The Mills” with a twist—alongside Wai Wai’s lovable characters, Totowai and Pineapple Cat. The lively characters will accompany visitors as they journey through The Mills to discover iconic spots, such as The Park, the original staircase, NF5 Gate, Golden Cup Metal Gate and more, all the while collecting stamps for their maps at each spot.

Participants who have successfully collected all stamps for Travel Around The Mills can redeem a limited edition The Mills Embroidered Badge* at the concierge on the ground floor, The Hall.

Embrace your Inner Artist at The Mills x CHAT Weekend Textile Workshops

As part of Kids Festival, The Mills is teaming up with CHAT (Centre for Heritage, Arts, and Textile) to co-organise a series of weekend textile workshops. Under the guidance of professional tutors, participants can unleash their creativity to create their own unique masterpieces, in an exploration of textile craftsmanship and traditional techniques. For more details about the workshops, please stay tuned to The Mills website and social media platforms.
