Taking inspiration from the Grimm Brother’s classic tale, Hansel and Gretel, come join us at ACT 3 Drama Academy for Drama Workshops mixed with sweet goodness, plenty of magic, a little bit of sibling rivalry and loads of laughter.
Specifically developed for young minds, our Drama Workshops consist of one-off sessions for the very young and 5-day workshops for the older ones leading up to an intimate performance for parents and friends. Developing listening and communication skills as well as building confidence and creativity, our workshops focus on encouraging collaboration, exploration and negotiation. With the very young, our Drama teachers stimulate creative play through the use of the imagination. For the older ones, it’s all about the experience and the experiment of interpreting and making meaning of the characters as they come to life.
Gallivant with Gretel
- For ages 18 to 36 months
- Parent and Child Workshop
In this active and engaging Parent and Child workshop, you and your little one will explore the use of Drama and Play to get your creative juices flowing and push the imagination as far as it can take you.
Through a combination of songs, music and lots of creative movement, join Gretel on a stimulating journey into the magical forest. Climb magnificent trees, crawl through the undergrowth and splash in the cool river water. Leave a trail of bread behind and then discover a dessert house in the middle of nowhere. Step inside and snack on fantastic muffins, delicious cakes and sweets galore. What a delightful adventure!
Oh Candy!
- For ages 3 to 4
A group of children are lost in the forest when their trail of breadcrumbs is mysteriously eaten up by crows! Wandering around, they come across a woman living in a colourful candy house. Lured by the sweet delights, the children step in only to realise that they have been tricked. Will they be her next meal or will magical candies come to life and rescue them?
During the week, your child will collaborate with other children and use choral voices to build confidence in playing the roles of the many characters. Set to upbeat music, with catchy songs, rhymes and lots of movement, the week will wrap up with a fun showcase at the very end.
Breadcrumbs
- For ages 5 to 7
Hansel, Gretel, Helga and Gerald are a set of quadruplets who decide to go into the forest to search for delicious food. But before they leave, they agree to create a trail so they can find their way back home. But a trail of what? After a big argument, they decide on breadcrumbs, rocks, seeds and nuts. However, after a whirlwind adventure, lo and behold, they get lost! Will they make it back?
In this 5-day workshop, your child will make creative choices through self-discovery and exploratory work with other children as they learn to communicate both verbally and nonverbally. With a mixed bag of storytelling and dramatisation, the children’s hard work will culminate in a performance on the very last day.
Hansel and Gretel The Musical
- For ages 8 to 10
Join the famous siblings in this musical adaptation of sorts! After being abandoned in the forest, Hansel and Gretel go on a wild journey up, down, round and through the forest, meeting strange characters along the way. Of course, they get lost in a trail of breadcrumbs, and end up in a sticky and hot situation with a pair of child-eating witches! Just what will they do?!
This musical workshop will provide your child with different tools to discover the art of telling a story through songs, dance and speech as well as communicating characters confidently with intention and motivation. Focusing on vocal and physical expression, your child will learn to build stage presence and ultimately, present this musical showcase to an intimate audience of family and friends.
The Witch’s Wrath
- For Teens
What begins as a search for a young girl’s missing brother unveils a grim secret behind a dark past. But is there hope when she meets an intriguing woman in the woods? In this dark interpretation, everyone is faced with dilemmas that they have to decide upon. How do we know what is right and what is wrong? Ultimately, how do we struggle to survive in a tempting and dangerous world?
During this week-long workshop, your teen will enjoy exploring this unique and rich narrative. Collaborating with other likeminded teens, your child will be encouraged to think creatively and work imaginatively to build characters with thoughts and feelings. Through the application of newly-learnt Drama techniques, these young actors will build determination as they work hard preparing and shaping the piece to ultimately showcase it in a live production on the final day.
