Alliance Française de Singapour is delighted to host Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery's newest exhibition in Singapore: Silent Voices.
Silent Voices explores the enduring resonance of still life painting through the works of Pierre Boncompain, Ziad Dalloul, and Denis Laget. Once a genre of quiet observation, still life has evolved over centuries—from depictions of material abundance to profound explorations of form, emotion, and conceptual ideas. This exhibition explores the unique voices of these three artists, each redefining the genre in their own way.
Pierre Boncompain’s luminous compositions evoke the warmth of Mediterranean life, blending Matisse-like simplicity with Bonnard’s harmonious palettes, embodying his belief that “painting is creating silence.” Ziad Dalloul’s “nature silencieuse” transforms everyday objects into meditations on the intimate world of lived spaces, expansive landscapes, and the tension between stillness and change. Denis Laget draws from the vanitas tradition, creating textured floral works that confront the fragility of beauty and the transience of life. Together, their works reveal the timeless appeal of still life as a powerful medium for reflection and reinvention.
