Melodies abound at the Asian Civilisations Museum’s new year’s celebrations of old and new, exploring popular folksongs and dances from Brunei.
Piano-meets-gamelan in this combined improvisation of iconic Bruneian folksongs. Dance the night away with traditional dances and colourful costumes, and try playing simple tunes at drop-in gamelan workshop.
Gamelan Workshop

- Location: Performing Arts Gallery, Level 3
Drop in and try your hand playing simple tunes on ACM’s authentic gamelan set, under the guidance of friendly instructors. No registration required.
Musical Medley: Folksongs from Brunei
- Time: 5.30pm to 6.30pm
- Location: River Room, Level 2
East meets West in this piano-and-gamelan musical showcase of popular folksongs from Brunei, such as Adai-Adai and Dang Mengalai, including a live Brunei Gamelan improvisation by local composer, Huang Ding Chao and Djoko Mangkrengg Performing Arts.
Dancing Delights
- Time: 7.30pm to 8.15pm
- Location: Shaw Foyer, Level 2
Enjoy an enchanting evening with the graceful Mengalai dance, energetic joget and other traditional folkdances from Brunei. After the performance, join a simple workshop about traditional dance forms by the professionals at Sri Warisan Som Said Performing Arts.
Free admission from 5pm to 12am.

By public transport: The ACM is a 5-minute walk from Raffles Place MRT station (Exit H).
By car: Can be reached via a road behind Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall, off Fullerton Road near Anderson Bridge.
Parking: At the basement car park of the New Parliament House, at Six Battery Road and at One Fullerton across from the Fullerton Hotel.
