In celebration of Illustrators Week, children are invited to explore a selection of books by Eric Carle and Leo Lionni. Eric Carle’s distinctive art technique lends a cool vibrancy to his books, a sure staple that dazzles both children and adults. His picture books are creatively designed for very young children especially The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do You See?
Leo Lionni is an internationally-renowned author and illustrator of more than 40 highly acclaimed children’s books. He received the 1984 American Institute of Graphic Arts Gold Medal and was a four-time Caldecott Honor Winner. Many of his stories are fables, teaching a moral lesson – often in cooperation or cleverness or the importance of things not always valued. His distinctive colourful collage technique brings pictures to life, making them interesting, fresh, and appealing to children. His book ‘Little Blue and Little Yellow’ showcases the use of transparency and combining colour.
The children will embrace opportunities to take on the role of an illustrator with creativity and imagination, and practise the techniques used while discussing the setting in the story.
