Bras Bash Complex was completed in 1980.

In the early 1980s, Bras Basah Complex hosted small-scale Xinyao recitals and performance which were immensely popular and drew large crowds. During its peak, there was an event taking place almost every Saturday at the complex. There were also other arts and culture-related activities such as book fairs and art exhibitions which helped to attract customers.

Bras Bash Complex certainly flourished in its early years. Book collectors, students and bargain hunters looking for second-hand books to save a bit - all of them knew that Bras Basah Complex was the place to go to.
