Our Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival


The celebrations will showcase an exciting, colourful and vibrant month-long programmes from 8 September to 8 October 2018.

 

Chinatown will be soaked in festivities and beautifully adorned with colourful lanterns and dazzling decorations.

They invite you, your family and friends to join in this festive celebration so as to better understand and experience the allure and significance of this traditional festival.

Programmes

Mass Lantern Walk

  • Date: 23 September 2018
  • Time: 7pm – 10 pm
  • Starting point: Kreta Ayer Square
  • Ending point: Along New Bridge Road

Enjoy a fun night out with your family and friends with your creative lanterns as you join in the Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2018 Mass Lantern Walk that is open to the general public. Immerse yourself in the festive spirit as you soak in the leisurely-paced lantern parade procession under the full moon and the dazzling displays around Chinatown. Don’t forget the impressive acts of the dragon dance troupes, energetic cheerleaders and the percussion band along the way! The lantern walk will conclude with stage performances, pyrotechnics and fireworks display in the heart of Chinatown.

Festive Trade Fair and Festive Bazaar

The full moon represents an auspicious symbol of abundance, harmony and prosperity. Chinese communities from all over the world celebrate its appearance on this important occasion.

During the Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival, visitors can bask in the festivities, walk along the bustling festive street stalls and shop for festive goodies. Be spoilt for choice as over 300 festival stalls will offer a dazzling variety of festive treats like moon cake, pomelos, lanterns, handicrafts, tea and more.

Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2018 Official Light-Up and Opening Ceremony

  • Date: 8 September 2018 (Saturday)
  • Time: 6:30pm – 10pm
  • Venue: New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street

The celebration for Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2018 will kick start with the highly-anticipated Opening Ceremony, which includes the Official Street Light-up, dragon dance performance, as well as an exciting line-up of multicultural song and dance performances by local and overseas troupes from China. Finally, catch the spectacular fireworks displays lined up for the grand finale!

Street Light-Up

  • Date: 8 September – 8 October 2018
  • Time: 7pm – 12mn (Sunday – Thursday); 7pm – 2am (Friday & Saturday)
  • Venue: Along New Bridge Road, Eu Tong Sen Street and South Bridge Road

Soak in the festivities and celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival in Chinatown, where traditional Chinese culture comes alive. This year street light-up will depict the stories of Chinatown where forefathers came to Singapore in search for better life and opportunities. In addition, be enchanted by the decorations of Chinatown as New Bridge Road, Eu Tong Sen Street, South Bridge Road and the inner streets of Chinatown are adorned with colourful traditional lanterns.

Nightly Stage Shows

  • Venue: Kreta Ayer Square

Gather around for the nightly performances at Kreta Ayer Square during the Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. Even today, the Square remains a popular gathering point for local Chinese communities. Catch and be entertained by the animated and dynamic Chinese cultural acts, folk songs, and music and dance numbers by local entertainers and overseas performing troupes.

Singapore Culture and Heritage Trail – Cantonese Chapter : “Reliving the Yesteryears Once More”

  • Date: 21 & 22 September 2018
  • Time: 5pm to 10pm
  • Venue: Kreta Ayer square

A new highlight this year, the Singapore Culture and Heritage Trail – Cantonese Chapter: “Reliving the Yesteryears Once More”.

Travel back in time to the colourful and vibrant night market of Chinatown in the 50’s and 60’s where many Cantonese congregate to stay, work and do business in Chinatown. Thus, through this special two nights event, you will get to learn about the history, culture and heritage of the early Cantonese immigrants. You will also have the opportunity to buy and taste a variety of Cantonese cuisine. Enjoy the nostalgia night and get energized with the extravaganza Getai.
