The Dragon Boat Festival is just round the corner and it is the season for dragon boat races and delicious rice dumplings!
But have you wondered why dragon boats and dumplings?
According to Chinese legend, there once was a loyal minister by the name of Qu Yuan. Banished and driven to despair, Qu Yuan threw himself into the river when his motherland fell to the enemies. The villagers rowed their dragon boats and raced to save Qu Yuan. Fishermen started to beat their oars against the water to scare away the fish in the river. Others threw cooked rice wrapped in leaves into the water to protect him from the fish in the river.
Come and celebrate this traditional Chinese festival at Chinatown Heritage Centre.
Let’s make some Bak Chang Buddies together and get rowing on very own Dragon Boat Adventure this June!
