Introduction to Batik Simbut Workshop

Discover the captivating art of batik simbut, an enthralling textile dyeing technique utilizing a rice paste as a resist. Presented by aNERDgallery, the pioneering Singapore-based art platform specializing in textile arts, with a focus on Indonesian batik and tenun from emerging and established artists. This workshop offers an introduction to batik simbut, contrasting it with hot wax dye resist batik. Participants will embark on a hands-on journey, mastering the entire batik-making process, from outlining to employing the 'cold wax' dye resist, utilizing the colet brushing technique for coloring, and optional wax removal. Each participant can take home their project materials, along with a sandwich bag. Open to participants aged 7 and above, with parental supervision recommended for children below 7. No prior experience is necessary, making it an ideal beginner's class.
