Managing Pest Sustainably in Ornamental Houseplants

Encountering pests on your plants is part and parcel of gardening. In this talk, let Jeremy Yeo and Derrick Nguyen share about some of the popular plants grown at home and identify the common pests that affects them. They will also share with you some environment-friendly and sustainable methods that you can use to manage these pests at home.

Give your household plastics a new life!

Approximately 900,000 tonnes of plastic is disposed every year in Singapore and only 4% of these plastic wastes are recycled, making plastic the waste with the lowest recycling rate.
Repurposed your old plastic milk bottles or detergent bottles (Type 2 or Type 5 Plastics) by bringing them down to the garden turn them into keychains/mini pots that you can bring home!

Join us for a free guided walk to enjoy the lovely flora and fauna in Jurong Lake Gardens! During the evening saunter, enjoy the warm glow of the sunset and learn about some of the interesting plants and animals in the garden.

Are you ready to own a pet? Learn more about how to provide basic care and understanding various behaviours of pet animals. You will get to understand the importance of adopting a pet and what you can do to become a responsible pet owner!
In this edition, we will be introducing participants to chinchillas. Being one of the more popular types of pets, there is much to learn about these adorable ‘fur-iends’. Participants will have an engaging session to learn about chinchillas and meet our pet ambassador, Snowie, online.
Ready, Camera, Action! At JLG | TOYL x SustainableFest

Join The NLB TOYL's Video Creators Club facilitator, Mr Philip Au, as he takes you on a two-part special, in collaboration with SustainableFest 2022 at Jurong Lake Gardens! Learn useful tips and techniques to help you capture the natural sights and sounds of the environment. Then, take your skills and ideas outdoors at a guided tour of Jurong Lake Gardens. Discover the beautiful features of the Gardens and have fun creating a meaningful eco video of your own!
Participants MUST be able to attend both sessions. Only a one-time registration is required.
A Guided Tour of Jurong Lake Gardens + Outdoor Filming Exercise
The programme is suitable for seniors aged 50 and above with an interest in growing and developing their videography skills. Participants must bring their own smart phone with video function, or their own cameras. Participants may also bring other equipment such as tripods or selfie sticks (if any).
TOYL x SustainableFest is a collaboration between the National Library Board and Jurong Lake Gardens. SustainableFest is a yearly festival organised by Jurong Lake Gardens. It aims to empower visitors and audience with knowledge and inspire them to adopt sustainable practices into their lifestyle.

Vermicomposting Workshop by Green@Heart

Vermicomposting is a process by which worms are used to convert organic waste such as food scraps and plant scraps into nutrient-rich vermicompost. This vermicompost not only benefits the plants but also reduces the amount of waste going into our landfills. This workshop will teach you how to create your own DIY vermicompost.
OneMillionTrees - Tree Planting at Jurong Lake Gardens

The Outdoors - Our Responsibility Workshop (On-site) by Green@Heart

This workshop will carry out interactive games as well as show & tell sessions at different areas of the Gardens to educate the importance of taking only photographs and leaving only footprint. Participants of this workshop would be able to instil an outdoor ethic be awarded a Leave No Trace certificate.
Birdwatching by Green@Heart

Step into the embrace of nature and immerse yourself with the cheerful chirpings of the birds that reside in Jurong Lake Gardens. In this birdwatching session where you will be provided with a pair of binoculars to catch a glimpse and learn about the wide variety of birds species that we have in our Gardens.
