What goes through a computer’s mind every time you interact with it? How are smart gadgets designed? This exploratory camp introduces youths to coding fundamentals along with basic electronic concepts, builds confidence in problem-solving, and instills creativity and resilience. Learn to code the brains that control smart devices, and discover the creative design process behind them!
Course Outline
Day 1
- Building their first interactive games on Scratch (event-driven programming)
- Events & conditionals through physical and on-screen activities
Day 2
- Precision and accuracy through paper and on-screen activities
- Coding their first computer animation on Scratch (visual programming)
- What makes a computer through assembling their very first credit-card sized computer (Raspberry Pi)
Day 3
- Introduction to electronics
- Making and coding their first electronic gadgets and toys with physical input / digital output on Raspberry Pi
- Variables & Lists through paper and on-screen activities
Day 4
- Making and coding their first electronic gadgets with digital input / physical output on Raspberry Pi
- Introduction to design thinking through physical and paper activities
Day 5
- Identifying a real-life problem and coming up with possible solutions
- Building and coding their own projects on the Raspberry Pi from shortlisted solutions
- Final project presentation
