Joo Chiat, found in a charming corner of eastern Singapore, holds a special place in country’s heritage. Have you ever wondered how Joo Chiat is viewed through the eyes of children?
Ten Primary 4 students from Teck Whye Primary School, as part of the school’s Young Authors Programme, journeyed through the conserved heritage shophouses, quaint stores and eateries in Joo Chiat with Mr. Kelvin Ang of the Urban Redevelopment Authority, the agency in-charge of conservation areas. The result of this partnership was two stories written by children for children interweaving the children’s imagination with stories about life, trades and buildings in Joo Chiat.
Join for an hour of interactive storytelling conducted by the young authors, take photos with the story character, Billie the hornbill, and take home the 2 story books “A Wish Come True” and “Billie’s Adventure in Joo Chiat” for your reading pleasure and to discover Joo Chiat too!
