National Geographic Ocean Exploration Children’s Workshop

Learning in an inspiring and fun environment helps children create a strong foundation of self-confidence, problem-solving and verbal skills.

When that environment is an aquarium, it also helps to instill a love and respect for nature.

This is what makes National Geographic Ocean Exploration Children’s Workshop so unique. Specially designed for children aged 7 to 12, it is Singapore’s first-ever marine science and maritime exploration workshop, facilitated together with Outdoor Adventures.

It comprises of:

  • Guided tours of both S.E.A. Aquarium and the revamped Maritime Experiential Museum
  • Exclusive National Geographic documentary screenings
  • Interactive activities such as eco ship building and photo quiz race

Here’s how children will benefit as they learn to be a great explorer, and understand the most important global factors for ocean conservation.

  • Boost creativity and problem solving skills

What makes a ship float? How do you ensure it stays afloat when it’s made out of recycled cardboard? These are just part of the thought process participants go through during the ship building mission, one of the many hands-on and mind-triggering activities that help to develop problem solving skills and creativity.

  • Become a better team player and communicator

A team is only as strong as its weakest link. With group activities such as the Ocean Conservation Mission where participants have to complete tasks around the aquarium, they learn the importance of teamwork through cooperative play, and develop good interpersonal skills through effective communication.

  • Pick up expert knowledge

Participants will be taken on not one but two guided tours at the S.E.A. Aquarium and Maritime Experiential Museum.

With highly knowledgeable educational facilitators as their guides, they can gain tremendous insights on the exhibits and history, marine inhabitants, and even what it is like to work at the aquarium. There will also be special ‘pit stops’ such as the Shark Seas Habitat, Open Ocean Habitat and Sea Jellies Habitat where the guides will share more in-depth information on the animals.

  • Speak to the pros

Marine conservation isn’t simply about saving the ocean and charismatic species. It is really about safeguarding the health of planet and the future of all living beings. And who better to inspire young minds than members of Guardians of the S.E.A.A. – the conservation group of S.E.A. Aquarium.

Through a private sharing session, this small but passionate team will touch on topics such as the current state of the ocean, their experience in marine conservation, as well as how everyone is in fact a guardian of the sea. Participants are also encouraged to ask questions to promote critical enquiry and understanding.

  • Inspire compassion

By educating young minds about marine conservation, they can better understand the pressing issues faced by the ocean and endangered marine species due to human actions, as well as foster love, respect and compassion for all animals.
