Dancing for toddlers (2-5yo) and their families!
To wrap up Season 1 classes, Rolypoly Family hosts a Family Farm Boogie at Ground-Up Initiative's Kampung Kampus! On the afternoon of March 11th, Saturday, begin in the studio with a veggie fun dance jam (with facilitation by dance artists Faye and Felicia) before heading out for a short farm walk and snack time.
In the spirit of Rolypoly Family dance classes, there're the space provided for children and grown-ups to partner-up and collaborate, whether it be through exploring movement and dance, following their curiosities on a walk, or preparing a snack.
- Children and grown-ups should be dressed in comfortable attire for active movement. Don't be surprised if you find yourself rolling, crawling, climbing, jumping, going upside down, ROFL (rolling on the floor laughing) or all of the above!
- No prior dance experience needed. There is no "right way" or "wrong way" to dance in the jam, though Rolypoly Family provides tips for safe dancing.!
There are very limited places in this event so do register soon to avoid disappointment! For each child, there can be up to 2 participating grown-ups due to studio size.
To register, please send an email to faye@rolypolyfamily.com with the number of participating children and grown-ups, as well as the ages of the children. Please use "Registration for Family Farm Boogie" as the subject line.
Artists
- Faye Lim founded Rolypoly Family to share a space where dance and community can be enjoyed by dancers and families with young children. Her practice in movement and contact improvisation, experience teaching dance to young children, and never-ending play with her 2 year-old son form the base for her work in Rolypoly Family. She continues to collaborate with other artists on performance-making, directs the Strangeweather Movement Group and facilitates jams and workshops. She holds an MFA in Dance from the NYU Tisch School, where she received the Graduate Award for Artistic Initiative.
- Felicia Lim is a dance practitioner based in Singapore. She studied dance in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and continued on to her final year in SUNY Purchase College, graduating with a BFA in dance. While in school and through various workshops and intensives focusing in somatic practices and contact improvisation, she experienced diverse ways of approaching dance and is interested in discovering more about the relationship of the body and movement.
