The Basket by Rolypoly Family is a dance theatre performance for children aged 4-8 years and their families
It is inspired by The Incredible Basket, a delightful book by local children's book author, Quek Hong Shin, and features two dancers with lots of baskets and baskets full of imagination! Come experience what the dancers will do with the baskets and the journey they will take with the audience. Children and grown-ups can expect to interact with the performers and maybe put all their eggs rambutans in one basket.
At its core, The Basket looks into acts of holding and caring - holding space, holding each other, caring for others and caring for ourselves. These are images and sentiments that children as young as 4 years old can appreciate and connect with.
Through dance theatre, we present these acts of holding and caring in very literal and physical ways. What is it like, in our bodies, to be kind and caring and to be a container for ourselves and others? What is like when the basket gets too heavy? How does it feel when it is just enough? This animated and sometimes acrobatic performance will offer a visceral experience of these questions in age-appropriate and age-appealing ways.
Held in Ground-Up Initiative (GUI), an independent community and farm space in Khatib. GUI as an organisation has been holding space for community building and ground-led leadership since 2008.
