Young Canadian pianist Charles Richard-Hamelin takes the lead in Chopin’s lyrical Second Piano Concerto, written when the composer was just 20, akin to the Armenian Suite which Armenian-American composer Yardumian wrote when he was 19. The youthful first half of this programme gives way to the gentle ebb and flow of Liadov’s The Enchanted Lake, before ending with the evocative soundscapes and gleaming final chords of Scriabin’s aptly titled Poem of Ecstasy.
