Whyte Labs
Whyte Labs is a place where an exciting adventure with robots begins! This award-winning startup based in Singapore is pioneering a unique exploration-based approach to teaching young minds how to build animal-like robots from scratch. Why animal-themed robots though? Because building such robots requires an interdisciplinary approach that connects physics, math and biology with robotics, electronics and coding. In fact, it was the very process of learning how to build animal-like robots during their University days, that gave the founders, Aditya and Jeremy, a strong foundation in robotics that equipped them for the internationally-acclaimed robotics research that they went on to do. As you’ll see from their social media, through this approach, they go on to equip kids with the skills and confidence to prototype their own unique ideas and inspire them to apply them and solve real-world problems.
Whyte Labs’ robotics programs offer a refreshing take on STEM skills and inspire young tinkerers to see how they can apply what they learn at school and through robotics, in the real world. Each Whyte Labs workshop involves children taking on a hands-on ‘challenge’ as they gain a deep understanding of robotics, electronics, mechanics and coding.
Beyond learning robotics, however, what parents often observe is the holistic growth in their children as they work on robotics projects with Whyte Labs. The depth and level of challenge, paired with top-notch mentorship, help children appreciate the value of patience, perseverance and communication skills. The Whyte Labs community of tinkerers also helps kids take on a number of unique opportunities, such as working closely with the founders on new initiatives, collaborating on wild robotics projects and even volunteering to help teach workshops!
Summary of their programs:
Intro to Arduino: A Robot’s Brain is their entry-level, 3hr workshop to kickstart a robotics journey that equips children with the knowledge and skills needed to build the core part of any robot – its brain. Young tech enthusiasts learn fundamental elements of hardware electrical circuits, basic programming concepts, troubleshooting and debugging programs. By the end of this program, students will have developed their own little home automation system based on Arduino, one of the world’s most versatile prototyping platforms.
During the Walking Robots Bootcamps, little robot builders will be exposed to the practical learning experience with both the hardware and software aspects of robotics. The programs cover all aspects of a walking robot’s design, from the electronics, system architecture, algorithms of movement to the physics of walking and programming the robot to balance and walk. By the end of these bootcamps, young innovators will have built their own bio-inspired robots from the ground up.
For those who want to explore more sophisticated control, robot-soccer, create own 3D-printed robot parts, integrate new sensors, and make a robot even more intelligent, Whyte Labs has prepared also offers weekly Advanced Robotics classes.
To ignite your child’s imagination and welcome him or her to the fascinating world of cutting-edge technology with the guidance of Whyte Labs’ professional instructors, pleasecontact us.
