Buds Youth Theatre (BYT) is an inclusive, value driven theatre exposure programme for young people aged 15 to 22, with a genuine passion for theatre, who are interested in a career in the Arts.

The year-long programme consists of 4 well-curated modules that aims to give youths a chance to dabble in various theatrical art forms and styles.

Module 1: Acting for Performance

Youths explore various elements of performance. Conducted by current theatre practitioners in the industry, youths will get a chance to be exposed to many forms of performance for the stage!

Module 2: Playwriting

Each youth are invited to write a play, mentored by local playwrights in the industry. We explore different writing styles, concepts of various writing techniques as well as story ideation! Youths receive feedback in the workshopping phase as they journey on their own writing! A truly all round process!

Module 3: Performance Production

In this module, youths staged their plays that was written in module 2! Plays will be staged in a professional theatre space. Youths will learn about designing Lights, Sound, Set, Props and costume. Additional skills to learn include Stage Management and Programme Booklet & Poster Design!

Module 4: Physical Theatre

In this module, our youths learn different styles and training methodology of physical theatre. Industry professionals come on board to share their work and expertise with the youths! Get ready to get your sweat on!

Buds Youth Theatre also provides our youths opportunities through Outreach Programmes in the community in Singapore and internationally. Our youths were recently involved in The Asian Youth Theatre Festival 2022 (AYTF) in Cambodia. AYTF, the largest youth theatre festival in Asia, focuses on creating an inclusive community that utilises theatre as a vehicle for change. The festival involved multiple youth artists and arts organisations from across the region presenting a performance followed by dialogue. At AYTF this year, BYT presented a devised play titled "Woman" - a six story play about the lives of Singaporean women as they navigate through different cultural and societal norms.
