Dover Court International School in Singapore is one of the leading inclusive British international schools in South East Asia.
DCIS is an inclusive multicultural community that enables all individuals to realise their academic and personal potential in a dynamic and challenging learning environment which values enquiry, perseverance and reflection. At DCIS, they act with integrity and treat one another with respect, learning together as responsible global citizens.
DCIS will provide extraordinary learning opportunities for the globally connected student. A nurturing and inclusive environment, an international curriculum, and a culturally diverse community will facilitate exceptional achievements.
Using the English National Curriculum at the core, their unique approach to teaching embraces a range of learning styles and blends personal and collaborative learning to offer an individual experience that ensures success for every child.
From an early age, Dover Court students display a marked improvement in numeracy and fluency of reading in a short time. Students are given a grounding in languages, and are invited to participate in a number of creative, music and sport programs.
The curriculum gives your child a broad understanding of subjects such as history, geography, art and technology, and promotes an international perspective.
The infant school at Dover Court covers ages 3-7 in four year groups:
- Nursery: 3-4 years
- Reception: 4-5 years
- Year One: 5-6 years
- Year Two: 6-7 years
Reception and Nursery Curriculum
In Nursery and Reception, children will learn through the well known Early Years English National Curriculum and is delivered through a multi-sensory, play-based approach. Students sing, dance, go on trips, cook delicious and healthy food, swim, experiment, paint, read, use construction toys and generally have a wonderful time.
They maximise their wonderful playground which act as an extension of the classroom to expand the range of activities students may access on a daily basis. The curriculum has 7 areas of learning and development:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Key Stage 1 Curriculum (Year 1 and Year 2)
The Key Stage 1 curriculum is designed to keep students interested and engaged in their learning and to ensure that there is continuation and progression from the earlier years. The broad and balanced UK curriculum ensures progression and continuity for each child and is enhanced with trips, visitors, art projects, theme weeks and specialist teaching.
Physical development is important at this age and children swim, dance, take part in gymnastics and team games. Their classrooms are bright and engaging, reflecting the current unit of work and the children's continuous learning. Literacy and numeracy tools cover the walls, immersing children in language and acting as scaffolding to reinforce concepts.
They involve parents in children’s learning wherever possible and offer workshops so they can support their children's learning at home.
