Master percussionist, versatile musician and industry veteran Mohamed Noor has been drumming up Singapore’s music scene for the last 45 years.
At 50 years of age, the sought-after musician is adept at over 30 different percussive instruments, and has racked up years of experience performing with international names from David Bowie to Gypsy Kings, Randy Crawford to Toots Thielemans, as well as with local and regional artists including Jeremy Monteiro, Jacky Cheung, Ramli Sarip and Mohamed Raffee.
This year, commemorating Esplanade’s 15th anniversary, Noor celebrates his 15-year journey with the arts centre. Join the man of the hour as he performs with his three bands: Tamil pop outfit Vasantham Boys, featuring his brothers Mohamed Rafee and Bashir, with Daniel Sitranen; world music band Tribal Tide, comprising Reggie Perera and Joe Jayaveeran; and world fusion group Men in Groove, with Casey Subramaniam, Leonardo Mendoza and Euntaek Kim. Joining them is his mentor and international percussionist Steve Thornton.
Noor will also give sneak previews of several new fusion jazz and carnatic pieces, re-arranged and composed for this concert.
