On a tiny set lit by a single bulb, endless possibilities are illuminated. Within a one metre square stage, a solo performer creates an exquisite piece of micro-physical theatre by just using just his hands and feet, and eventually his torso and seemingly uncontrollable face.
Performer Thom Monckton returns to Flipside with Only Bones, after his successful solo performances in The Artist in 2019. Only Bones is an award-winning production by both Thom Monckton and Gemma Tweedie from New Zealand, and Finland’s Kallo Collective. It was nominated for awards in the NZ and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals (2015 & 2016 respectively) and won Best in Physical Theatre at the NZ Fringe 2015. The show played to sold-out houses in the Avignon and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals 2016 and continues to tour.
About the artists
Kallo Collective is an award-winning physical theatre and contemporary circus company focused on non-verbal productions with comedy at their core. They champion the art of physical based humour with a wide range of performances, workshops, and produce the annual NouNous Festival. Based in Helsinki, the company was founded in 2009 and has toured in over 28 countries.
Solo performer Thomas Monckton is a performer, director, and teacher of physical based performance originally from a tiny town in the north island of New Zealand, now based in Helsinki. He trained in the circus arts in Christchurch and then at the Lecoq school in Paris. His other solo shows The Pianist and The Artist were hits at several festivals and continue to tour worldwide. The Artist was presented in Flipside 2019.
