There are saga seeds in our pockets!


An adaptation of the children’s picture book Ada biji saga di dalam saku kami! (There are saga seeds in our pockets!), this performance follows characters Mahir and Aqil as they go on an excursion to the Malay Heritage Centre.

 

Follow them as they discover more about Singapore’s past, experience aspects of Malay culture and meet interesting friends along the way.

About Al Hafiz Sanusi

Al Hafiz is a versatile actor that has performed in several notable English and Malay stage productions over the years, most recently for W!LD RICE’s Where Are You?, AKULAH Bimbo Sakti’s Cerita Cinta and Teater Kami's Tepuk Amai-Amai.

An Honours Graduate in English Literature from Nanyang Technological University, he has also learned Jingju (Beijing Opera) in Shanghai and Clowning and Topeng Pajegan in Bali. He has also since branched out and developed his works through different creative platforms, such as writing and spoken word poetry.

About Rizal Rahiman

Rizal Rahiman has been active in MediaCorp’s Suria since 2015, first appearing in Kolej Komedi, followed by several supporting roles in dramas such as Kecoh Kecoh Ramadhan, Aduh Bibikku 2 and 60 Sen.

Rizal has explored the theatre scene since 2017 and has performed for different theatre companies such as Sriwana and Teater Kami. He also lends his vocal talent for radio dramas at MediaCorp’s Malay radio station, Warna 94.2FM.

Since the onset of the pandemic, Rizal has picked up street photography, an activity that helps enhance his skillsin identifying different body languages, which he finds useful for his acting journey.

About Maria Mahat

Maria Mahat has written six children’s picture books and is currently working on an additional four books, which will be published within the next year. She also writes novella, short fiction stories and articles related to early childhood and entrepreneurship. There are Saga Seeds In Our Pockets! is her first children's bilingual picture book, which has also been translated into Mandarin. Maria began her career as an award-winning television producer and later moved into educational research and early childhood education policy. With a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education and Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment, she co-founded Ungu Pen and sits at the helm as the lead content creator, consultant and educator, assisting in the development of engaging and meaningful content in a variety of formats for her audience. She is the mother to two boys, who are the inspiration behind this book.

About Dalifah Shahril

Dalifah Shahril is a performer, arts manager and freelance educator who is effectively bilingual in English and Malay. She has performed with various theatre companies and television producers. Dalifah has also lent her vocal talents to MediaCorp’s Suria and Warna 94.2FM, a Malay radio station. A graduate from National Institute of Education (Specialist Diploma in Arts Education), Dalifah also has a Certificate in Teaching the Arts in an Early Childhood Environment (SEED Institute), and in Educational Studies – Speech and Drama (Teachers College, United Kingdom). She teaches speech and drama to children at Little Arts Academy and other MOE schools. Dalifah was named Best Actress for her portrayal of a former comfort woman in Hayat Hayatie (Teater Kami, 2017) at the Life! Theatre Awards 2018.
