STEAM Holiday Program with Explorer Junior

Join us for our exciting line-up of programs this coming March school holidays!

The school holiday is a short while away and we have lined-up a series of programs for Explorers aged 4 - 11 years old!

Tech Junior Holiday Camp

  • 4 - 6 years old
  • 15 - 17 March
  • 9.30am - 12.30pm

During this 3-day holiday camp, Explorers will journey through the gardens of the future and be engaged with tech manipulatives as they try to learn about the various creatures from the insect kingdom at the same time!

With the help of True True robot, explorers will guide the butterflies to the garden through an unplugged coding activity while also learning about the life cycle of a butterfly.

Explorers will also discover about bees and its importance in our lives and even other creatures too! They will then create their own Bee Robot using materials and micro-robots so that it can navigate to the different flowers!

Explorers will be designing and building structures to solve a few challenges to help Sphero, the smart gardener which happens to be a spherical robot, to navigate and maintain the Insect Garden!

Through this camp, Explorers will gain basic programming concepts (e.g. algorithm, sequencing), develop problem-solving skills, learn new science concepts and, be equipped with the Explorer Mindset!

STEAM Holiday Camp: Earth Explorer

  • 4 - 6 years old
  • 18 - 19 March
  • 9.30am - 12.30pm

During this 2-day holiday camp, Explorers will discover the wonders of nature and travel to different landforms in this expedition through a series of specially curated STEAM hands-on activities!

Activity highlights:

  • Layers of the Earth: Explorers will learn about the different layers of the Earth and create their own 3D model of the Earth.
  • Valleys and Mountains: What are valleys and mountains? Explorers will venture through the wonderful creations in nature through a VR experience and understand how the landforms are formed. Explorers will then build a simple model of the Andes mountain.
  • Layers of the Ocean: Water and oceans take up 70 percent of our Mother Earth! Take a deep dive into the ocean and discover amazing creatures living in the different layers of the ocean. Explorers will simulate the ocean layers in a bottle for them to continue their exploration at home!
  • Oceans and Continents: Explorers will learn about the oceans and continents through a series of activities (e.g. puzzle-solving, map reading). They will also learn about the Explorers of the past who were early discoverers and create the map.

STEAM Discovery Workshops

  • 4 - 6 years old
  • 13 or 20 March
  • 10am - 3pm

This is a 4-workshop series that exposes young minds to different Science and Tech creations through a hands-on approach that uses different manipulatives.

  • Workshop 1: Navigate with True-True and Light up a Robot (13 Mar 2021; 10am - 12pm)

Join us for a day with the True-True robot and learn how to solve a few challenges through programming the robot! Explorers will then get their hands on designing and creating their own robot using simple circuits and materials.

  • Workshop 2: Exploring with the Sphero (20 Mar 2021; 10am - 12pm)

Explorers will be able to program a Sphero, the spherical robot, using an app! Explorers will use materials to design and build structures for Sphero to navigate through as ways to challenge their creative process as well as the versatility of the robot!

  • Workshop 3: Rocket Adventures (13 Mar 2021; 1pm - 3pm)

Join us in exploring outer space through the launching of rockets! Explorers learn about how this powerful space machine work and discover how force and pressure play a part in its journey to outer space.

  • Workshop 4: Alien Invasion (20 Mar 2021; 1pm - 3pm)

Aliens in space? Join us as we unravel the mystery! Explorers will design and build an alien spaceship and help them get their way home to a planet far away!

STEAM Attack -The Science of Day & Night

  • 7 - 11 years old
  • 16 March
  • 2pm - 4pm

Join us for hands-on fun this March Holiday! The workshops aim to expose young minds to different STEAM creations through a hands-on approach that uses different manipulatives.

  • Workshop 1: The Science of Day and Night (16 Mar 2021)

We experience day and night daily but have we taken time to wonder about this astronomical phenomenon? During this workshop, Explorers will learn about the movement of the moon, Earth, and sun. They will build an Earth, sun, and moon model using electrical circuits!

STEAM Attack-Guardian of the Mystery Box

  • 7 - 11 years old
  • 18 March
  • 2pm - 4pm

Join us for hands-on fun this March Holiday! The workshops aim to expose young minds to different STEAM creations through a hands-on approach that uses different manipulatives.

  • Workshop 2: Guardian of the Mystery Box (18 Mar 2021)

Protect your belongings and keep them in a secure place! During this workshop, Explorers will be tasked to build a safe box using tools with a lock system. Through this activity, they will understand the science and mechanisms behind the workings of safe boxes.

Junior Game Designer Holiday Camp

  • 7 - 9 years old
  • 15 - 18 March
  • 9.30am - 12.30pm

During this 4-day camp, Explorers will be introduced to basic animation skills and gain knowledge and exposure to computational programming and game design through an interactive and hands-on experience using Scratch 3.0.

  • Day 1: Introduction to Scratch 3.0 interface and functions

Explorers will get to familiarize with the different blocks and functions in Scratch 3.0. They will learn to animate themselves and other characters using the tools in the program.

  • Day 2: Animate Explorers think and create sequencing in storytelling.

They will incorporate sounds, conversations, backdrops, and plot in their story.

  • Day 3: If this event happens, that event will occur Explorers will be exposed to the steps of program writing.

They will learn about what they should take note and think about before starting to write a program. They will then be tasked to write their very own program or game. In controlling the flow of their program or game, they need to make selections that influence decisions. There will be a series of creative thinking exercises whereby they will be introduced to create catch games as they program the character in their story to catch other sprites.

  • Day 4: Chase Game

Situations Explorers will get to create various possibilities of a simple game of chase, whereby one character of the game chases another character so that the player can garner a lot of points. It is up to the explorer to determine the difficulty of the game based on the program they design!

Junior Game Designer Holiday Camp Lvl 2

  • 7 - 9 years old
  • 13 or 20 March
  • 10am - 4pm

During this camp, Explorers will learn how to level up their game design!

During this camp, children will be learning new functions using Scratch 3.0 (e.g. Nested Loops, Complex condition statement, logics-if statements) on top of what they have learned in the level 1 class. Using the new functions that they have learned, they will be tasked to create new and more complex games (e.g. Car Racing Game, Road Crossing Game).

Participants must have either attended our Jr Game Designer Level 1 camp or has the basic knowledge about Scratch on laptop of computer (not including iPad). Participants will be required to open an account on scratch.org.
