The inaugural Precious Peony floral display showcases the beauty of the "King of Flowers''.
From a Chinese garden to the facade of a Peranakan shophouse, the floral display traces the journey of this revered flower of the Chinese as immigrants from China made their way to Nanyang to seek a better life in a foreign land.
Amidst a landscape of vibrant ornamental peonies from China, Japan and the Netherlands, visitors will also experience the rich depictions of the peony in Chinese cultural artefacts.
These include an antique Peranakan blackwood bench inlaid with mother-of-pearl on loan from the Asian Civilisations Museum, a rare iron-splash glazed blackware vase that is over 700 years old contributed by the Society of Chinese Ceramics Studies, and intricate Peranakan hand-beaded slippers from The Intan.
