A special event co organized by the US Embassy in Singapore and Science Centre Singapore.
Dr. North will inspire and engage the audience in a creative process that will let them get to know one another, bring out their inner prototyper, give them the basics of product development, and develop an understanding of giving a fun and quick pitch. A 5-phase interactive approach is outlined below. Dr. North will act as speaker and master of ceremonies establishing a fun and lively environment. Audience members will be learning by doing. It’ll be a one of kind experience!
-
Phase I: Inspirational/Entertaining Talk: (20 minutes)
Dr. North will give a talk featuring work from his Discovery Shows Prototype This! and In The Making. The focus of the talk will be on the innovative spirit and showcase projects such as The Waterslide Simulator, Unstealable Bike, and Personal Airbag. The talk will be laughter generating and entertaining.
-
Phase II: Empathetic Listening (10 minutes)
We’ll then move into the interactive section where the audience engages itself in a creative exercise. Every audience member will pair up with the person next to them to understand some challenge their partner is facing (empathetic listening).
-
Phase III: Interactive Audience Participation: The Prototype (30 minutes)
Next, every table will be given a bundle of prototyping materials. The participants will use these materials to fashion a prototype to assist them in explaining an idea that will help their partner make their life even more awesome. The prototype may represent a product or may be used to explain a concept or service.
-
Phase IV: Audience Pitches (20 minutes)
With ~6-10 people seated at a table, each member will then give a 60-second pitch to the rest of the table using the prototype they developed for their partner. Pitches will include what the problem the prototype is solving, who the user is, and how the prototype will make their partner’s life more awesome.
-
Phase V: Pitch Finals (10 minutes)
Every table will vote for their champion to come forward to compete in a final showdown. Judges will select their favorite concept and the top three places will receive prizes.
