Supported by Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism, “The Wayang Kids” is about a group of primary school children overcoming cultural and language barriers to represent their school in an international Chinese opera performance.
Leading the team is a student with mild autism who has to convince his classmates, teachers and parents and ultimately himself that he deserves a role in the performance.
With the support of his classmates from a very diverse background, he must show his courage and perseverance to step up and shine on stage. “The Wayang Kids” strives to expose young children to different cultures and mother tongue languages in Singapore. It also serves to promote social values, such as resilience, strong family ties and racial harmony.
