The ginger order, Zingiberales, is large and incredibly complex.
It comprises eight fascinating families of perennial herbs with rhizomes, which are classified into about 110 genera and more than 3,000 known species. Collectively known as “gingers”, many members in this order originate and thrive in the tropics.
This exhibition is an immersive investigation into all things ginger. Learn about their longstanding relationship with humans, serving as spices, medicines, food and ornamentals. Gain an insight into ginger research and encounter some artworks featuring gingers.
It’s time to celebrate the beauty and diversity of gingers.
