As part of Anime Season, ArtScience on Screen presents this extraordinary, award-winning animated classic from iconic animation company, Studio Ghibli!



The Tale of the Princess Kaguya is based on one of Japan’s oldest folklore, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. It tells the story of a mysterious girl who was discovered as a tiny nymph inside the stalk of a bamboo plant.  

The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter is featured in the exhibition, The Universe and Art. Dating back to the mid-10th century, the hand scroll is considered to be one of Japan’s oldest story about space.
