Usher in a Roaring New Year! Join us to welcome the year of Tiger this Lunar New Year!­

 

OFFICIAL STREET LIGHT-UP AND OPENING CEREMONY

We are currently in an endemic and although some measures are more relaxed, but we are not letting down our guard. We continue to stay vigilant and putting the necessary safe management measures in placeto protect the public health and safety. Therefore, most of our activities will be organized virtually. Chinese New Year is an important festival for Chinese around the world. For this year ChinatownChinese New YearCelebrations 2022, it will be launched virtually and livestreamed on Noontalk Media, and Chinatown Festivals FacebookPage and YouTube channel. Do visit the said social media platform and join us at our official light-up and opening ceremony as we usher in the Year of the Tiger with good luck and prosperity.

STREET LIGHT-UP

Chinatown is once again beautifully decorated with street light-up to mark the celebration of Lunar New Year. Designed by students from the Singapore University of Technology and Design, this year street light-up will feature sculptured lanterns from cub to tiger striving to achieve strength and vitality in their growing up to depict how we will stay united and emerge stronger from this Covid pandemic. Not forgetting the centrepiece between New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street that comprise a family of tigers to signify reunion, harmony and prosperity.

WWF AND TEMENGGONG TIGERS SCULPTURES DISPLAY

This year Chinatown Festival Organizing Committee is collaborating with World Wildlife Fund and Temenggong Artists in Residence. Local artists have been invited to paint different Tiger sculptures which will be displayed at various parts of Chinatown to promote the importance of global animal conservation and the environment.

CHINATOWN WISHING TREE

Make your Lunar New Year wishes come true at the Chinatown Wishing Tree! Write wishes for yourself and your loved ones on the “Make a Wish” card and hang them on the wishing tree. The public may donate a minimum of $2/- or more for each wishing card. All proceeds will go to Kreta Ayer – Kim Seng Community Development Welfare Fund that will be used to organise community programmes to help the needy elderly and low-income families.

For the first time, we are bringing Singapore crowd favourite“Getai” online to bring festive cheers to all. Famous getai artistes will be presenting their best songs and dance at online getai and to bring you and your family “Heng, Ong, Huat” to your home for a healthy and prosperous Year of the Tiger.

Organised by Everyday Tour Company, the public may join the Chinatown Chinese New Year Walking Trail to immerse in the festive atmosphere, learn about the traditions and heritage, catch the tiger sculptures, enjoy the local delicacies and experience the dazzling street light-up.
