"Cognitus" is a Latin word which means "to know and to learn"

At Cognitus Academy, our mission is to guide students along their journey of discovery and inquiry about global issues that affect them. We believe in helping our students reach their full potential academically, with the long-term aim of developing strong character and perspectives in them. Hence, our immediate goal is to work with our students to achieve high grades for English Language Examinations for PSLE and O-Levels, as well as General Paper Examinations at the A-Levels. Ultimately, students at Cognitus Academy are trained to become informed citizens that make distinctive contributions in Singapore and around the world.

Our Curriculum Director, Dr Chua, is a former teacher and Head of Department at one of the top Primary schools in Singapore. Since leaving the Ministry of Education (MOE), he has earned a PhD in history and taught Bachelor, Masters and Doctoral students in Australia and Singapore.

As an English teacher, he guided his inaugural Primary 6 class to achieve 100% A and A* for PSLE English (among whom 82% scored A*). Dr Chua also taught Future Problem Solving, an enrichment programme for Gifted Education Programme (GEP) students. He was the winner of the NIE Caring Teacher Award and a finalist for the Inspiring Teacher of English Award.

A professional historian, Dr Chua was an Assistant Professor of History in a university in Singapore and currently serves as a consultant to MOE's Curriculum Planning and Development Division. He was also the adjunct lecturer at the National Institute of Education (NIE) where he conducted pedagogy courses for trainee teachers.

Led by our Curriculum Director, Cognitus Academy brings together a team of dedicated teachers with prior experience in teaching and management in MOE schools.
