Many children love to read but how do you kick-start their reading journey?
Discover how you can prepare your child for reading through phonics, interactive play, arts and crafts, body movement and interaction with the world around them through stories.
Conducted by our experienced Phonics educators, Lydia Lok and Khushbu Porwal, this Phonics trial class will give you insights on:
- How a regular phonics class is conducted
- How we incorporate multiple intelligences and make learning phonics a fun experience
- The value of starting your kids on synthetic phonics at a young age.
*Timings:
- Sat 9.30-10.45am: Toddlers class for 18 mths to 2.5 yrs old (non-parent accompanied)
- Sat 1-2.15pm: Children aged 3 to 4 yrs old (non-parent accompanied) *1 slot left*
- Sat 2.30-3.45pm: Children aged 4 to 5.5 yrs old (non-parent accompanied)
- Sun 9-10.15am: Toddlers class for 18 mths to 2.5 yrs old (parent accompanied)
- Sun 11-12.15pm: Children aged 3 to 5 yrs old (non-parent accompanied)
- Sun 1.30-2.45pm: Children aged 3.5 to 6 yrs old (non-parent accompanied)
Come experience the unique Multiple Intelligence approach to teaching Jolly Phonics!
In each class, the focus will be on:
1. Learning the letter sounds (7 groups on the right)
Children are taught the 42 main letter sounds. This includes alphabet sounds as well as digraphs such as sh, th, ai and ue.
2. Learning letter formation
Using different multi-sensory methods, children learn how to form and write the letters.
3. Blending
Children are taught how to blend the sounds together to read and write new words.
4. Identifying the sounds in words (Segmenting)
Listening for the sounds in words gives children the best start for improving spelling.
5. Tricky words
Tricky words have irregular spellings and children learn these separately.
Small classes with a maximum of 8 kids and a teacher to student ratio of 1:4.
