P1 Preparatory English Classes (for weak readers)! Free Trial!

Is your child struggling to read? Are you concerned about the big jump from K2 to P1? Are you worried for your child about Spelling & Dictation?

It's not too late to start preparing your child for Primary 1. They have helped many struggling readers learn to read in a few months, and they have transformed from weak readers to ones with voracious reading appetites.

Programme seeks to equip children 6 years old with the necessary skills to excel in their Primary school education and beyond. With an emphasis on reading (using Jolly Phonics prog), writing, and grammar skills, students will be equipped with the tools to shine in their daily work. Students enrolled in the programme are encouraged to think critically, question everything, and be creative.

The class is taught by experienced educator, Yao Shuohan, a former MOE teacher with ten years of teaching experience.

They have free on-going trial classes at the following timings:

  • Primary 1 Preparatory Class: Sat 9 to 10.15am
  • Primary 1 English class: Sat 2 to 3.30pm
  • Primary 3/4 English class: Sat 11:00 to 12.30pm
  • Secondary 1 English class: Sat 4 to 5.30pm
  • Secondary 3/4 English class: Sun 5 to 6.30pm

In each class, students are exposed to skills required to do well for the PSLE English Language Syllabus, including:

Students gain exposure to the narrative writing style.

  • Writing technique

Students are taught writing techniques, including planning strategies, effective introductions and conclusions, and clear, focused paragraphs. These techniques are reinforced through modelling in class, and the analysis of sample essays.

  • Personalised feedback

Students are given individual feedback on a weekly basis. The timely feedback ensures that they correct poor writing habits expeditiously.

Focus here is to teach comprehension answering skills in line with the PSLE English Language Syllabus, while simultaneously exposing students to current affairs and general knowledge. Grammar skills are also honed.

  • Comprehension skills

Students are exposed to different question types (including factual and inference questions) and taught specific techniques on how to handle each question type. They are taught principles that ensure that all answers are accurate, complete, and specific.

  • Critical thinking and reflection

Students are trained in critical thinking and reflection each lesson, with current issues discussed and explored. They are armed with the general knowledge to deal with various themes or current affairs confidently and apply it in both their reading comprehension and writing.

  • Vocabulary-building

Vocabulary that is relevant to the main themes discussed each week will also be introduced, helping students to express their ideas clearly and succinctly. These words will also expand their word bank and can be applied in their writing.

This session is free. Please register your attendance by emailing hello@curiousthoughts.sg
