Behind The Wall

"Christmas is not as much about opening presents than opening our hearts." - Janice Maeditere

'Tis the season to spread love and kindness to an often overlooked community in Singapore - our migrant worker friends! In conjunction with our upcoming digital production Behind The Wall, Gateway Arts is launching our Gift A Gift and #KindnessStartsAtHome campaigns. We hope that through this programme, parents and children will be inspired to be kind, and show appreciation for our migrant worker friends' contributions to Singapore.

SYNOPSIS
Written by award-winning playwright Jean Tay and directed by Samantha Scott-BlackhallBehind The Wall follows Tommy, a little mouse who ventures beyond a mysterious wall in the perfect city of Pura Pura, where he meets animals that talk and look different, like Al the Elephant, a worker from a faraway land. Behind The Wall shows us that, while people may look and sound very different, we are all the same on the inside, and just as capable of kindness.

This 30-minute film is designed for families with children 5 to 12 years old, and is accompanied by a 20-minute post-show activity video and digital activity booklet, which provides insights into the lives of our migrant worker friends.

GIFT A GIFT
From 15 Nov to 5 Dec 2021, with every ticket purchased, patrons will have the option to donate $10 to our Gift A Gift initiative. Every dollar donated will go towards providing care packs of essential items such as toiletries, masks, hand sanitizers and more to our migrant worker friends!

We will then be distributing them to our beneficiaries together with our partner HealthServe, on International Migrants Day.

#KindnessStartsAtHome
Gateway Arts believes that creating a kinder world begins with a  culture of kindness in our own homes.

A thank you card will be included in the Behind The Wall post-show activity booklet for all patrons. We encourage all parents to print and decorate the thank you card together with your children, and post the completed card on social media, using the hashtags #BehindTheWall, #GatewayArtsSG and #KindnessStartsAtHome.

You can give these thank you cards to any migrant worker friend you meet, and we will also share these images with them!
