Supergirl. That’s what Molly’s Mum and Grandma used to call her when she was little.
For a while, she believed it – thought she had real superpowers. But as she got older, she realised that she was just an ordinary girl. Or was she?
Molly is twelve, and her little brother Joe is six. One day, Grandma didn’t wake up – and now Mum can’t stop crying. So Molly becomes a Supergirl again. She cooks, she washes the dishes, she gets Joe ready for school. Supergirl can do everything. Supergirl doesn’t cry. But being Supergirl doesn’t feel much like being a kid anymore.
Now that Mum is finally starting to feel better, maybe things can go back to normal. They can’t turn back time, but they can face their worries together.
How To Be A Kid is an uplifting and accessible story about grief, resilience, and the need for families to communicate about their feelings – and heal together.
