Do you know what it takes to keep our food heritage alive?
Step into Uncle Lau’s world as he considers the fate of the stall he has been running for 35 years. The rent has gone up and his children have plans of their own. What will happen to the customers he cares so much about when he has to close down? What will occupy his time with when he doesn’t have his beloved stall to run every day?
In this intimate play, writer and actor William Tan brings you a tale inspired by the human stories behind Singapore's UNESCO-recognised hawker culture, highlighting how these culinary traditions remain vital through the daily work of dedicated individuals who serve as living repositories of cultural knowledge and technique. Switching between dialect and English, and featuring familiar characters in the Hawker centre in the form of puppets, this is a story for anyone who would miss eating from their favourite hawker stall if it ever closed down!
