Winter Camps 2020 @Genius Assembly

Winter Camps 2020 @Genius Assembly

Our Courses are based on "Learn through Play"

Learning through play is well established as a method for developing holistic skills in the early learning years. Despite the evidence, many educators have minimized the opportunities for playful learning in favor of didactic approaches.

“Learning through play supports the development of early literacy and numeracy skills in an integrated approach, while also cultivating children’s social, emotional, physical, and creative skills” (Marbina, Church & Tayler, 2011).

The LEGO Foundation recently released the results of a five-year research initiative that looked at learning through play as a way of enhancing educational curricula. The study found that in the past few decades, educators around the world have been striving to teach STEAM subjects that will be increasingly important as the pace of innovation grows and the job market evolves. Emphasis on the content of STEAM subjects has led to an increased use of didactic methods and more focus on quantifiable academic achievements. But focusing exclusively on what is quantifiable means educators have had less time to promote the development of holistic skills—social, emotional, physical and creative skills—that are essential for creating lifelong learners.

Lego Science 4-6 years

Lego Science course for early learners is a creative and intuitive program that introduces preschoolers to early coding and critical 21st century skills, while naturally sparking their curiosity, creativity and desire to explore and learn together.

We use various lego sets in this camp that have the “Duplo” logo including Early Simple Machines and Coding express. The camp curricula allows children to intuitively explore early coding concepts while developing problem-solving skills, critical thinking and collaboration.

(Lego Duplo is a product range of the construction toy Lego by The LEGO Group, designed for children from 1 1⁄2 to 5 years old. Duplo bricks are twice the length, height, and width of traditional Lego bricks, making them easier to handle and less likely to be swallowed by younger children)

Lego Science 6-10 years

These camps are designed to develop elementary school students' curiosity and confidence to solve real-life problems through engaging STEAM projects with intuitive block-based coding and standards-aligned lesson plans that make STEAM learning fun and accessible. LEGO bricks, sensors and motors help students of all levels develop concrete and tangible understanding of abstract concepts

Lego Science 11-14 years

This camp is a hands-on, cross-curricular program that engages and challenges high school students to practice their STEM and robotics skills in a ‘near real-world’ environment. Easily adaptable to fit any learning environment, MINDSTORMS EV3 offers the opportunity for confidence-boosting in-depth study, preparing students to pursue further education in computer science, engineering and other related areas.

Code Easy (Scratch) 6-10 years

Coding workshops are an amazing way for our kids to start developing important skills such as computational thinking, algorithmic logic, problem-solving and creativity.Coding, just like any other language, is learned best at a young age. There are many ways to teach programming, however, the main challenge is how to explain abstract mathematical concepts like axis, parameters and variables to young children. Scratch, a programming language that was developed by MIT, rises to the challenge. It uses colorful animation to help illustrate difficult concepts and opens a door to the wonderful world of code

Code Easy (Real-world) 8-14 years (Python , Introduction to HTML)

In the real world category, we offer two different courses, Python and Build your own website (also called as Introduction to HTML).

Python is a programming language that provides real skills for the future. It’s an amazing, text-based coding language, perfectly suited for children older than the age of 8. This makes it a perfect resource to follow up more visual, block-based coding programs like Scratch. Python is also considered the language of choice for data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence – all areas that are extremely in demand in our current economy
