Pesta Kampung 2018

Pesta Kampung 2018

Pesta (a Festive gathering In Malay, derived from Portuguese) Kampung – a carnival initiated by our children and led by children for children and families, to connect the community and to nature through play.

Saturday 10th November 1000 - 1500 hours
PThis is a tribute to Kampung Chief’s legacy, Ground-Up Initiative (GUI). Story of Pesta Kampung In response to the Kampung Chief, Tay Lai Hock’s sudden passing on August 14th, two brothers were saddened and worried about the future of Ground-Up Initiative. They dealt with their emotions with a positive stride “Let Uncle Lai Hock’s Love for Kampung live on in us”. Hence, they came up with the idea of children-led carnival, where the community will come together and enjoy the Kampung, in hopes of continuing the good works of GUI.
So why not? GUI warmly embraced the idea. The parents gathered children who shared the same love for the kampung over the years. With community partners who advocate and support child-led initiative partaking in this event, in the short span of 2 months, Pesta Kampung is now launched, to:
• Raise awareness for the need of a truly community driven space for the community like Kampung Kampus
• Help support Kampung Kampus in continuing their great works for the people of Singapore
• Advocate & empower truly child-led Initiations, community bonding, play & sustainability
