Tales from the Nusantara: The Sacred Banana Leaf

Tales from the Nusantara: The Sacred Banana Leaf

Join us for a morning of storytelling and craft activity inspired by tales from the Nusantara (Malay World)!

Find out how Kanchil, the beloved trickster mousedeer of Indonesian folklore, falls into a pit and invents a prophecy to trick some unlikely animals into helping him out. With only a banana leaf for company, can he get out of the pit?

Starting from December 2019 – June 2020, the Malay Heritage Centre will tell a story from the Nusantara (Malay World) in conjunction with its special exhibition ‘Seekor Singa, Seorang Putera dan Sebingkai Cermin: Reflecting and Refracting Singapura’. After listening to the story, participants will also get a chance to see artefacts, plants and/or specimens featured in the story followed by a food tasting* session and a craft activity.

You will also receive a reward card to redeem for a special gift upon completing the activities.
