Grounded Conversations with Hu Yun

Grounded Conversations with Hu Yun

n conjunction with the opening of another diorama, a Coordinates Project of Singapore Biennale 2019, this Grounded Conversations event considers the making of Hu Yun’s work Carving Water, Melting Stones by reflecting on the occasions where he visited Paete’s (in the Philippines) woodcarving communities and encountered some of the original 1980s National Museum of Singapore dioramas at Elias Park Primary School.

In this talk, Hu Yun will share more on his work around the world-making processes of historical dioramas, and the contexts his research and artistic methodologies are situated in. another diorama examines the limits and expansions of working with the sculptures of late artist Shui Tit Sing by orienting towards available archives and artworks. It is in this exhibition that Hu Yun extends his historiographic interest on everyday cosmologies that are incarnated by the processes of woodcarving. Hu Yun's research and access to Shui Tit Sing's practice are made possible by Mr Koh Nguang How.
