Live Planetarium Show: Let's Talk about Asteroids

Head down to the OmniTheatreSG on 30th June, 8pm, and join Live Planetarium show conducted by The Astronomical Society of Singapore to learn more about asteroids and the importance of studying them!

Synopsis: Asteroids, like comets, are leftovers from the formation of our solar system about 4.6 billion years ago. Despite their relatively small size, asteroids can be dangerous. Many have hit Earth in the past, and more will crash into our planet in the future. The 30 Jun 1908 Tunguska Event and the more recent 15 Feb 2013 Chelyabinski incident demonstrated the destructive power that these objects can unleash should they impact the earth. This is one reason why scientists study asteroids!

The talk supports the inauguration of the International Asteroid Day on 30 Jun 2017. The date was chosen to commemorate the 30 Jun 1908 Tunguska Event.
