Learn more about the Peranakan Chinese community's vibrant heritage this weekend! Community Voices at Peranakan Museum showcases the culture of diverse Peranakan communities through performances, cooking, crafts, and community-led museum tours.

This edition of Community Voices is presented in partnership with The Peranakan Association Singapore.

CRAFT-IT! PERANAKAN KUEH

Get hands on and knead your own bowl of miniature clay Peranakan kueh. You will also receive recipes of your favourite kueh to make at home and share with your family and friends.

Bead a Peranakan brooch inspired by the museum’s collection displayed in the Jewellery Gallery on Level 3. Explore various designs and learn how brooches were worn in the past.

Join us for a special musical performance with Marian, who will share her experiences of being a modern-day Peranakan girl. Alongside her mother, they will take you on a captivating journey, showcasing the Peranakan way of life and cherished heirlooms from the past.

LET’S LEARN ABOUT PERANAKAN SULAM WITH BABA RAYMOND WONG

Join Peranakan heritage practitioner, Raymond Wong from Rumah Kim Choo, as he explains and demonstrates the traditional craft of sulam (embroidery) that can be found on the Peranakan kebaya. Get a chance to browse through his personal collection of vintage kebabs during the session.

LET’S LEARN ABOUT PERANAKAN MANEK WITH NYONYA JACKIE SAM

Get up close with delicate beadwork made from vintage beads and intricate embroidery masterpieces hand sewn by Jackie Sam. Her creations have been presented to former president Halimah Yacob and were displayed at the Peranakan Museum's special exhibition, Nyonya Needlework, in 2016.
