Discovery of Music and Nature

Discovery of Music and Nature

  • Theme 1 Title: “Hidden In Plain Sight

Experience a musical performance inspired by nature against a forest background! Music and Makan (musicandmakan.com) curates a programme titled “Hidden in plain sight". Drawing inspiration from Sentosa Nature Discovery's mission to bring awareness to flora and fauna through deep observation, our listening experience can be made richer by learning to identify musical characteristics in a piece of music. Singapore's best musicians will perform pieces inspired by nature and the calls of birds and animals on the flute and keyboard, and will engage audiences in spotting musical “calls" such as motifs and ornaments. Gastrogeography of Singapore (gos.sg) joins in to do a presentation around makan that is hidden in plain sight – they will showcase plants grown in common areas in Singapore that are in fact edible! (Please note that due to venue restrictions there will be no food served during the performance. Guests will receive recipes for dishes using edible plants that they can try out at home.)

  • Theme 2 Title: "What Lies Beneath"

Music and Makan (musicandmakan.com) draws inspiration from Geology - what goes on above and below the surface of the earth and explores what goes on above and below in music (melody and harmony). Singapore's best musicians will perform pieces demonstrating musical texture/layers on the violin, viola and cello and audience members will also have the chance to participate in a sing-along to illustrate the concept of musical layers. (Please note that due to venue restrictions there will be no food served during the performance.)
